Custody & Parenting Plan FAQs

What does a parenting plan cover?
A parenting plan sets out clear guidelines for co-parenting. It typically includes:
- Custody schedules (weekdays, weekends, holidays)
- Vacation and travel arrangements
- Decision-making responsibilities for education, health, and activities
- Rules for communication and co-parenting expectations
Learn more on our Custody & Parenting Plans page.
Do parenting plans made in mediation hold up in court?
Yes. Once finalized and filed, mediated parenting plans are legally binding in California courts.
Can custody mediation be done remotely?
Absolutely. We offer
secure Zoom mediation for Monterey County families, allowing parents to work through custody issues even if they live apart or have scheduling conflicts.
How long does custody mediation take?
Most custody agreements are resolved in
1–3 mediation sessions. Complex cases may take longer, but the process is still much faster and less stressful than litigation.
Estate Planning FAQs
Q: Do I need both a will and a trust?
A: Many families benefit from having both. A
will names guardians for children and ensures your wishes are followed, while a
living trust helps your family avoid probate and maintain privacy. Learn more about Estate Planning services.
Q: How often should I update my estate plan?
A: We recommend updating your estate plan every
3–5 years or whenever major life changes occur, such as marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, or purchasing a home.
Q: What’s included in a living trust?
A: A living trust manages your property and assets during your lifetime and provides for a
smooth transfer of ownership after your passing. It helps your loved ones avoid probate court and keeps your estate matters private.
Q: Can estate planning cover multiple homes or businesses?
A: Yes. Trusts and wills can be customized to include
vacation properties, investment real estate, or business assets, which is especially important for families in Monterey, Salinas, or Carmel who own multiple properties.
